Eagle-Loon-Sunset-Foliage-Cruises

How to Hunt Black Bear (Ursus Americanus) |
These exciting New Hampshire Hunting Classes will start with the life history of the bear. Then it will move on to where and how to locate bears; determining sign of where and on what a bear is feeding, sign that will indicate size and in some cases sex of the bear. The students will learn, in the field, how to find bear, how to recognize by sight the size of a bear and identifying a "trophy" bear. Hunting techniques, methods and procedures for such as ambush, stalking, still hunting, calling and baiting will be covered. Class will conclude with proper field care and 'trophy' care of their animals. The students will be required to demonstrate, in the field, their knowledge of material covered.

How to Hunt
White Tailed Deer (Odocoileus Virginianus)
This class will deal with the life history of the most widely
hunted big game species of this continent: The White Tailed Deer.
We will then move on to how to identify good deer habitat, finding
and identifying different part of a deer's home range.
The difference between buck and doe areas will be studied, and
why they are located in separate areas. Bedding, feeding, and |

staging areas, travel corridors, and ambush points will be topics
of discussion. We will cover scents, their uses and in which
time of the season they are applicable. Deer have a diverse vocabulary
which will be examined, including how it can be used during the
hunting season. We will study, learn and practice hunting technique
such as calling, rattling & scents, spot and stalk, still
hunting, tracking and the use of tree stands. The class will
cover archery, muzzleloading and rifle hunting. We will also
include how to track and recover game after the shot; and learn
how to identify the sign of "trophy bucks." In addition
we will cover field dressing, game care and care of a "trophy"
animal. The students will be required to demonstrate, in the
field, their knowledge of material covered. |

How to Hunt
and Call Turkeys (Meleagris Gallopavo) |
Turkey hunting is calling. The students will be taught how
to locate turkeys, identify roosting and feeding areas. We will
look at the areas that make up a turkey's home range and
the little known information, such as a lecht. Included will
be the types of cover used and why a turkey prefers one over
another. The class will include how and where to set up for turkeys;
what types of calls to use and why. We will cover the different
kind of calls, their differences uses and effectiveness in addition
how to use the calls. Turkeys have different vocalizations and we will cover which ones are used and under what circumstance. In addition we will

cover field dressing, game care and care
of a 'trophy' animal. The students will be required
to demonstrate in the field their knowledge of material covered. |

and Call Moose (Alces Alces)
Spend three exciting days with 'retired' state
champion moose caller and now a New Hamspire full time guide, who spent two years with the Cree nation
learning their secrets & techniques for calling North America's
largest member of the Deer family. You will study the life history
of the moose, as well as the types of habitat they utilize. Learn
to identify where to look for moose sign in addition to the difference
between bull and cow sign. Study and learn hunting techniques
such as calling both cow and bull, spot and stalking, and tracking
before and after the shot. In addition to this learn which technique
to use in any give circumstance. You will learn preferred food
types and where they are located. Learn a guide's way
to field dress a moose, game care, 'trophy' care
and how to extract a moose from the woods. The students will
be required to demonstrate, in the field, their knowledge of
material covered.

Identification
Learn how to identify all plants native to the North Country
and The White Mountains; from ground covers to succession species
and dominant overstory.

Edible and
Medicinal Plants of the North Country
Learn to identify plants that have edible or medicinal qualities
for humans. Discuss and learn the proper techniques for gathering
and harvesting these plants. Students will be required to develop
a meal plan, and to prepare a balanced meal from the wild; then
collect and prepare the dishes for a satisfying end of the course
meal. Learn how to live off of the land.

"Leave
No Trace" Environmental Ethics
Learn how the seven points of the "Leave No Trace Philosophy"
help us protect the environment. In the class, we examine sites
where we can discuss and apply these ethical environmental directives.
After the classroom segment the students will each prepare a
lecture on the seven

points or the LNT Philosophy. They will each present their topics as we travel through the White Mountains National Forest. The students will be required to demonstrate their acquired knowledge through out the trip. |

Wilderness
Education Association Philosophies
The Wilderness Education Association course consists of 10
days. The course follows the "LNT" ethics curriculum
in addition to the WEA principals of how to lead in the out of
doors; and how to assess risks and make informed decisions. Included
will be developing the hard skills need to properly prepare for
an extended trip in the out of doors. The students will also
learn proper techniques of leadership and making leadership decisions
in remote areas. As the class progresses each student will be
required to lead for a day or more and will be critiqued at the
end of the student's time of leading.

Backpack Tours
Spend a night or a week in the White Mountains National Forest.
